Education

We began with an educational topic on Dies Domini. Chapter 4 of the document was discussed, and everyone attending was given the opportunity to share their opinions and insights about the text.

Minutes

The minutes for the February 13, 2006 meeting were unanimously approved by the Worship Commission.

Unfinished Business

New Hymnal/worship aid subcommittee status report:

The new hymnal/worship aid plan was approved by both Temporal Affairs and Parish Council.

Update from Lent/Easter Planning subcommittee:

The Lenten banner has been hung in the sanctuary. The Lenten bulletin inserts have accompanied the words on the banner each week to explain the significance of each week's word.

The palms have been ordered for Palm Sunday, and the flowers have been ordered for Easter.

For the Palm Sunday Procession into church, we discussed having a Plan A and a Plan B. Both Plan A and Plan B would start in the Activity Center. Plan A(good weather) would be to process outside to the Winton Road entrance to Church, and Plan B (bad weather) would be to process inside to the hallway and the main entrance doors (across from the Gather Rooms). A member of Worship Commission will place an announcement in the bulletin regarding the plans for the Palm Sunday procession. This announcement may also use diagrams to illustrate each procession plan.

The subcommittee also discussed inviting all the Eucharistic ministers to the Holy Thursday mass.

For the Holy Thursday mass this year, we discussed having the foot washing being made more visible by raising the ritual one step higher on the altar.

A few of the Worship Commission members suggested building a bookstand for the Gospel book. This new book rack would not only hold the Gospel book, but also the servers' candles.

Update on Usher meeting:

Stan recently sent out a letter for recruiting more ushers. He also plans on contacting the "substitute ushers" to see if they would like to usher on a more permanent basis.

Plaque for Preparation of the Gifts:

This plaque will be displayed on the aisle table that holds the gifts during mass and is to be claimed by member(s) of the congregation who wish to participate in bringing up the gifts at mass. This plaque will be claimed on a volunteer basis. The ushers will no longer have to ask members of the congregation if they would like to take up the gifts. Bulletin and pulpit announcements will accompany the plaque when it is introduced.

New Business

PPC Communication:

Cindy Engelhardt, PPC liaison to Worship Commission, was invited to come to this meeting. She discussed the results of the parish surveys being spread to all committees/commissions in the near future. As soon as the results are in, all committees/commissions will be informed. We also talked about members of Worship Commission and PPC attending each other's meetings in the future in order to keep each other informed as to what is taking place within each commission.

Fifth Sunday Mass communication update:

John Hadden was invited to attend our March meeting in order to discuss the Fifth Sunday Mass as well as to discuss plans for implementation of personal petitions and birthdays/anniversaries at the weekend masses. At the Fifth Sunday Mass, the organizers implemented the plan of asking those individuals attending the Mass if they wanted to have a special petition read for them or if they had a birthday or anniversary they were celebrating and wanted it to be announced. The results of this new initiative were extremely positive and very embracing by the attendees. Both Worship Commission and the Fifth Sunday Mass organizers believe that it would be very worthwhile to try implementing the personal petitions and birthdays/anniversaries plan at the weekend masses. Members of the Spiritual Life Committee agreed to work with Worship Commission to help with the implementation at the weeknight Masses. The plan for implementation is as follows:

1. Set up a meeting with greeters and lectors to introduce the concepts and to train them. A weekend meeting will be held with a follow-up meeting held after each weekend mass for those individuals unable to attend the large group meeting.

2. Communication will take place in three formats: Quicklets, bulletin announcements, and a special announcement at each weekend mass. The new plans will be implemented after the first set of announcements with a follow-up in the bulletin and Quicklets.

3. Members of the Spiritual Life Committee will be on hand at each weekend mass for the first two weeks (maybe more) to help insure a smooth implementation.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is Monday, May 8, 2006, at 7:00 pm in the Saint Clare room.
For this meeting, please read chapter 5 of Dies Domini. Remember that there will not be a Worship Commission meeting in April due to Holy Week.
