Unfinished Business

Reduction of Sunday Masses and Schedule

Fr. Paul attended this meeting to discuss the reduction of the number of Sunday masses celebrated at St. Vivian. Currently, Sunday mass is celebrated at 8:15am, 10:00am, and 11:30am. Fr. Paul and the Worship Commission suggested reducing the number of Sunday masses from three to two. This would most likely involve a restructuring of the Sunday mass schedule. For example, a new Sunday mass schedule might possibly be 9:00am and 11:00am.  Members of the Worship Commission also suggested that consolidating would open up a new opportunity for the parish to provide more education, renewal of ministries, and fellowship. A subcommittee was chosen to begin planning and carrying out the reduction of Sunday masses and the restructuring of the Sunday mass schedule.

Gospel Book Stand:

The Gospel Book Stand will be moved from its present location for Christmas and Easter masses. It was suggested that the stand be moved in front of the ambo. It was also suggested that it be moved to the place where the tabernacle used to be.

Sanctuary Sound System:

There are plenty of people who are able and willing to help out with the selection and funding of a new sanctuary sound system. Some individuals have already stepped forward to offer their help and opinions on this project.

New Business

US Catholic Bishops Liturgical Musician Guidelines

These are guidelines which look towards organizing a common body of music which every Catholic should know. For example, a Catholic could walk into any parish and recognize at least one familiar piece of music used in the liturgy. Members of Worship Commission suggested that St. Vivian should incorporate these guidelines into its music ministry.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is Monday, January 8, 2007, at 7:00 pm in the Saint Clare room. For this meeting, please read part one of the book Introduction to the Order of Mass.
