ST. VIVIAN PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
September 24, 2001
Members present:
Father Jack Filippine, Kevin McMackin, Milt Partridge, Fran Geier, Craig Kowalski, Linda Lennon, Peg Mersch, Tim Barry, Ed Holzschuh, Bonnie Mack, Jenny Reker, Joe Staneck, Tom Bove

Tim Barry led the members in prayer and reflection. As the new Pastoral Parish Council president, Kevin McMackin opened the meeting and asked for approval of the June 4 meeting minutes. Noting that Craig Kowalski should have been included as a member present, Fran made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Linda Lennon. The minutes were approved with the noted correction.
Parish Twining Update:
Father Jack has received a letter from Brother Ligett in Harlan regarding the parish twining project. Dan Besl is planning to visit the parish in Harlan. Craig Kowalski volunteered to be the Parish Pastoral Council contact for this project.
Amos Project:
The Lennerts have agreed to take leadership of the Amos Project. In answering Milt Partridge's concerns, Father Jack feels we can become involved with the project on a limited basis before involving the entire parish. The core team will eventually inform parishioners of the project, energizing them to become involved in the project.. Council was unanimous in their support of the project. Bonnie Mack will be the Parish Pastoral Council liaison.
Meeting Format:
Kevin commented on his meeting format and analyzed last year's Council goals.
Goals for 2001-02:
Joe Zins, Eduation Commission chairman, spoke of the importance of retaining quality teachers, the importance of adequate compensation and maintaining the facilities. He suggested there should be formal planning for the future.Tom Bove said that Temporal Affairs Commission, with the approval of Parish Pastoral Council, needs to take a broad look at planning for the future.
Milt Partridge volunteered to work with Joe Zins on planning for the future of the school and presenting a plan to Temporal Affairs.

Volunteerism&emdash;require certain number of volunteer hours to be performed by parishioners
Communications between organizations, commissions, parish
Concerns of parish groups

The goals need to be clearly defined, possibly by special committees.Joe Zins asked for and received council's approval to start discussing future planning.
Open Discussion/Walk-On Items:
The status of Catholic Telegraph subscriptions will continue to be reviewed.Linda reported that there will be a blood drive in February. She also reported that the cookbook will be out in November and a potluck dinner is planned for December to commemorate the feast of St. Vivian.
