September 23, 2002
Attendance: Joe Staneck, Kathy Rothschild, Tom Bove, Bonnie Mack, Tim Barry, Father Jack, Peg Mersch, Judy Hampel, Vivian Wagner, Fran Vanarsdall-Schwartz, Kathy Humbert, Don Schaeper
I. The meeting was opened with a prayer in the Chapel.
II. The prayer sign up sheet was passed around so that members present could sign up for a designated week in which to prepare our opening prayer.
III. The need for a "notetaker" was briefly discussed. It was suggested that names be forwarded to Father Jack if we felt there might be someone in the parish interested in helping in this capacity.
IV. Liason Roles were addressed. A sheet showing all parish groups and their current designation for a PPC member was distributed. Since some members have completed their terms, their names have been replaced with those of new members to PPC. Kathy Rothschild will update the list and prepare it for next meeting.
V. Business Manager Report:
A. PTA Fence: Kathy just wanted to share that information was shared with the appropriate groups regarding the fence and the fact that we will not be adding one.B. Parish Financials will be going to the Temporal Affairs committee next week. The information should be published in the near future.
C. Winton Road Expansion: The road will be expanding by two feet onto property, however, the space that they are taking is actually in the county right of way, it is not our property. The Bridge near Finney Trail will be reconstructed and possibly made ADA compliant. This will be done with either crosswalks and/or ramps.
D. Festival Numbers: Have been finalized and are being presented this evening. A thank you was extended to all that helped in making Festival 2002 such a success... in spite of our weather issues that weekend!
VI. Focus for the year? What should we spend our time on ?
A. Help groups to be more inclusive1. Tim explained how this topic came from AMOS Project survey and mentioned the idea of "in-breeding" that was also shared in this survey2. It was discussed that all volunteers for any activity or group should be contacted, even if the needs are filled. This is especially true if the person volunteered in writing.
3. We should remind organization leaders to look at the list of any names they may have gotten from the volunteer fair. Since it was toward the end of the year it could have been easy to not contact those new additions... but now would be a great time.
4. Liasons should make a verbal statement to all organization leaders to attempt contact to all that volunteer for their organization.
5. It was discussed to possibly have another team leader meeting for all parish organizations.
B. Resource management
It was quickly decided that the responsibility for this topic belongs to the advisory group that will be discussing the Parish long term plan as well as the fact that a "Development Director" is on the horizon for our parish.
C. School and church public relations/recruitment
1. These two areas were put together as they can hardly be seperated.2. It was discussed that we should use the internet to increase community awareness of the parish.
3. As we all know, there are many sources of communication and we need to make sure we use them all to their full advantage.
4. The proposed Development Director was again discussed. It is hoped that this will be happening sometime in the not so distant future. This person would definitely be responsible for some Marketing of both the Church and the School
5. There is PR in many areas of our Parish; Church Community, School Community, City Wide as well as in the Catholic Community
D. Care of the elderly
1. Parish nurse could visit the elderly and shut ins etch. Possibly a volunteer position or positions. There could be liability issues here.2. The Archdiocese does have a program that relates to Nurses and the Parish Nurse program. It could be worth checking into.
3. Network of Prayer versus Network of Care??? Possible nursing home visits
4. Communications between school and those parishioners without children in school were discussed. How can we accomplish this?
a. Adopt a buddyb. Hook up a young family with older parishioners.
E. Priest shortage and planning
1. The target group will be working on this topic heavily. If we pick this up it would be a duplication of efforts.2. We will address this through the long term planning groups.
F. AMOS and twinning
1. These two projects began with the help and support of PPC. They are in their infancy now and still need our support. The idea that we should keep up with these groups in order to make sure they continue and grow.2. Twinning - it was discussed that this organization needs to improve it's communication to the larger parish as far as available information and what's going on in the organization.
G. Formation, education and discernment
1. What do we mean by discernment? In light of PPC2. Tim shared the following: "Consensus built out of prayerful consideration and open discussion."
H. Communication
1. Tom shared the fact that he still feels the need to push the importance of communication throughout the parish.2. It was discussed that communication truly fits into to just about every other area that we discussed this evening
3. As we all know, there are many ways to communicate within the parish and community. We need to make sure and take advantage of what is available to us.
VII. Where do we start?
A. It was agreed that the areas of Resource Analysis and Shortage of Priest really will fall into the area in which the Long Term Planning committee is entering.B. PPC will expect information from them in the future in these areas.
VIII. What do we focus on?
A. Amos/Twinning: PPC will monitor and continue to get updates, this ties directly into communications as well.B. Care of the Elderly: What could be done here? Brainstorm ideas and check with the Archdiocese and other parishes.
C. Communications: Recruitment/PR and Inclusiveness fall under this umbrella. Should we begin a Communications Commission? It was again discussed that a Development Director is on the horizon, perhaps even by Christmas.
D. Formation/Discernment: Keep as a year long goal to stay aware of during our working time together. Possibly have Bill Lonneman share some information and/or reading material.
