Mission Discussion:

Brother Ligett was unable to attend the meeting as planned because of a funeral in his parish and, therefore, Sue Lennert and Dan Besl did not attend as planned.

Concerning the adoption of a mission parish, questions have been asked whether the parish can be motivated to do the project and can the parish financially support the project. Beyond these concerns of finances and logistics, the comments regarding the project have been positive. Harlan, Kentucky is east of I-75 on the Tennessee border&endash;about a four hour drive. It was suggested that a statement of purpose should be written which can be developed as the project evolves. Among the risks are: how much involvement is going to be required and will there be adequate support from the parish; the distance to Harlan; how to keep the parish interested in the project down the road; how to retain enthusiasm. The members agreed there needs to be a plan to minimize the risks. The project needs to be marketed to parishioners and to the various groups of the parish. The various group leaders need to be made aware of the project; school children should also be involved. It will be necessary to determine the needs of the parish in Harlan&endash;buildings, money, tutors, etc., before St. Vivian Parish embarks on the project.

St. Vivian Stewardship:

Kathy Rothschild reported that all school families are required to make a pledge to the stewardship campaign. Those who have not have received a letter stating that their tuition will be raised to the non-parishioner rate. She also reported that Ursuline Hall is lacking in storage space and a new storage shed will be built to offset this problem.

St. Vivian Social Update:

There will be a potluck dinner for parish families to celebrate the feast of St. Vivian on December 2 following the 4:30 PM Mass. The PTA pancake breakfast will be on Sunday morning, December 3.

Open Discussion/Walk On Items:

A liaison sheet was handed out to members. Fran, Linda and Peg will work out the division of duties of the Social Concerns and Worship Commissions.

The Finance Commission has not yet met with the newly formed Fine Arts group but will do so in the near future.

Father Jack announced that Advent booklets will be given to parishioners at the beginning of Advent.

Upcoming parish events were announced.

Beginning December 1 there will be a change in the manner in which Mass intentions are handled. It is only possible to celebrate 400 Masses each year. Many more requests for Masses are received. Requests for Masses beyond this number will be sent to the Archdiocese who, in turn, will send them to the missions. It was agreed that it will be important to communicate this clearly to parishioners. Parishioners will be encouraged to donate to the parish's memorial fund.
