ST. VIVIAN PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

March 26, 2001

Members Present:

Father Jack Filippine, Mike McMahon, Tom Bove, Milt Partridge, Craig Kowalski, Bob Lemmink, Linda Lennon, Peg Mersch, Fran Geier, John Hadden, Ed Holzshuh (Father Jack was called away shortly after the meeting began)

Minutes of February 26:

Mike asked for approval of the February minutes. The minutes failed to note that the comment received concerning the music group at the 4:30 PM Saturday Mass would be given to the music group. With the inclusion of such a statement the minutes were approved after a motion for approval was made by Bob Lemmink and seconded by Fran Geier.

Festival Report:

Kirk Vonderhaar was not able to be present to give a festival report.

Discernment Review:

Jim Brown will meet with Parish Council candidates and Education Committee candidates on April 4. Those parish council members in their third term should plan to attend the meeting also.

Future Planning:

Kathy Rothschild will give a report on the budget at the next meeting on April 23.

A representative will attend the June 4 meeting to address council members regarding AMOS, an out-reach program to improve relations with the black community.

Open Discussion:

Fran Geier commented that the back parking lot is very poorly lit at night and asked if installation of lighting would be possible. Tom Bove will bring the matter to the Temporal Affairs Committee.

Milt Partridge suggested renting space as a way to increase income.

Tom Bove spoke concerning parish finances. Finances are trimmed to the point of no return. Income must be increased. A major fund-raiser involving alumni and/or businesses is a possibility. Too many little fundraisers undermine major fundraisers. A meeting with all group leaders in an effort to get their feed back might be advisable. Fundraisers need to be tracked and the groups need to have a better understanding of finances.

Suggestion Box:

A request for floor lamps to provide a more pleasing environment for evening events held in Ursuline Hall has been received. Linda Lennon is willing to put a notice in the bulletin asking for donations of lamps and will check with Kathy. If there is no response, Tom Bove will bring the matter to Temporal Affairs Committee.
