Minutes of November 20:

Joe Zins name should be removed from "Members Present". He is not a member of the Council. With no other comments, the minutes were approved as written.

Parish Activities:

Linda reported there would be a blood donor drive on February 2 between 2 and 8:00 PM.

Fran reported on the marriage enrichment Valentine Mass, dinner and program to be held in Ursuline Hall for married couples on Saturday, February 10. The dinner will be catered. It is hoped that 25 couples will sign up for the evening.

Joe Meyer came to the meeting to speak to members concerning re-introducing the Christ Renews His Parish Program that was originally started at St. Vivian in the 1970's. He is working with St. Susanna's Parish CRHP team. They would put the program on for the first group. The program runs from Saturday morning through Sunday dinner. It is hoped that the parish would be able to have a ladies and men's group do the program in the spring and fall.

Dan Berning spoke regarding putting a trophy case, which would be funded by the boosters, in the foyer of the new activity center. He assured members it would meet all building codes. The boosters would also like to install basketball backboards in the activity center. The backboards would not be installed until this summer.

Mission Discussion:

Brother Ligett a Franciscan from Harlan, Kentucky, spoke to council members about his mission parish. He has been in Harlan for seven years. Catholic religion is a minority religion in the mountains but Catholics are the ones doing the most for the area. The parish operates a school, food pantry, thrift store that helps to support the school, and helps people pay their rent, utilities and pharmacy bills. Sixty four percent of the older adults are unable to read. Brother Ligett invited council members to visit the parish.

Dan Besl and Sue Lennert are willing to be involved in the project. Fran Geier made a motion that interested parishioners visit the parish to learn more about the project and what is expected. Peg Mersch seconded the motion.

Discernment Sunday:

Those members going off council will form a committee to nominate persons for parish council next year. Also up for discussion is who might be named to co-chair the parish festival.

Liaison Assignments:

Kathy will print out the new liaison assignments.

Open Discussion:

Tom Bove commented on the new communion traffic pattern and the fact that council members were unaware this would be taking place. He suggested that when any commission initiates a major change in the parish it should be first communicated to parish council. Parishioners expect members to be a source of information and should be able to address concerns of parishioners questioning them.

Kathy reported that an inter-faith hospitality group has asked the parish for a donation this year. The parish has given to this group previously but since extra funds are scarce this year, the parish will not make a donation. It was agreed extra funds should be kept for the mission project.

Suggestion Box:

Linda reported that $8 was left in the suggestion box.
