Members Present: April Albers, Nancy Burke, Anne Flick, Jacque Martens, Kim Parker, Julie Phillippi, Karen Rutz, Kathleen Schaefer, Fran Vandarsdall-Schwartz, Martha Siegel, Nancy Slayton, Lori Spinnenweber, Trisha Stragand, Christine Vesprani, Mary Volker, Janine Winters and Pat Yung.
Welcoming/Opening Prayer: Meeting was called to order and opened with a Prayer.
Secretary's Report: Minutes were reviewed and accepted.
Treasurer's Report: Total Expenses - $0, Total Deposits - $2,851.82, New Balance - $5,282.09 and Savings Account Balance - $2,893.40.
Father Jack: Father Jack has another meeting tonight. Fr. Jack mailed a letter about the fence proposed from PTA. He indicated that he did not want the fence because of wanting people to feel welcomed at St. Vivian.
PTA was not planning to organize games for the Parish Picnic. After Fr. Jack requested that PTA reconsider; Ms. Karen Rutz motioned to reconsider participation in the Parish Picnic by having a cornhole game for the kids. Ms. Jacque Martens made a second motion and the motion was passed.
Principal's Report: Mr. Cavanaugh had another meeting to attend.
Speaker: Patti Hadden attended the PTA meeting and presented information on the Christ Renew His Parish Retreat for Women and the Grocery Fund.
General Business:
1. Innisbrook Wrap Sales - The date for orders to be turned in was extended. Online orders can be made that will benefit the school and credit the individual child.2. St. Vivian Parish Picnic Update - Refer to notes under Fr. Jack.
3. Everybody Counts - Ms. Karen Rutz reported that they would be attempting to have the program in October. Everybody Counts will be organized so that it does not interfere with testing.
4. Write Stuff Update - School Supplies were given out and this program will be provided next year.
5. Public Relations Position - Julie Phillippi will perform this duty.
6. Welcome Committee - This program has begun for new parents in the school to be paired with an existing parent in order to provide new parents with information as well as answer any questions. Many other suggestions and ideas were provided at the meeting and this committee will continue to evolve.
7. Advertisements in School Programs - Ms. Fran Vandarsdall-Schwartz reported that last year PTA spent $150.00 for boys' basketball and girls' basketball ad. Ms. Fran Vandarsdall-Schwartz motioned to make a full-page ad for girls' basketball and a full-page ad for boys' basketball totaling $150.00. Ms. Martha Siegel seconded the motion and a majority passed the motion.
New Business:
1. School Directory - All information should be in next week and the directory will be compiled. A discussion about payment for the directory occurred. It was determined that the decision about payment for the directory for this year was made by last year's PTA and that this decision needed to be maintained. Decisions for next year's directory will be discussed in April or May 2003.2. PTA Help Wanted Forms - These forms were distributed by Ms. Kim Parker to identified committee chairpersons.
3. PTA Dues Results - 209 families have turned in their PTA dues.
4. Pancake Breakfast - This will be planned for February 2003.
5. New Fund Raising Ideas - Information and booklets were brought to the meeting by Ms. Kim Parker and were available for review.
Other Business:
1. Increasing parent/teacher involvement - A discussion of having more parents and teachers involved with PTA occurred. Last year there was one general meeting and this year's goal will be to have two general meetings on topics of interest. Incentives to increase participation in the meeting were identified.2. Carnation/sucker sale - Discussed having this available for students to purchase on Valentine's Day and this can be further explored.
3. Ceiling Fans - Ceiling fans were purchased and installed under budget. Fans will be installed in the extended care room.
4. Answering Machine - Several concerns were identified over the difficulty of reaching a "real person" on the school phone and just getting the answering machine.
5. Teacher Representative - This matter will be looked into to determine who is the teacher representative for the PTA.
