Board Meeting Minutes

September 15, 2001

 

1) WELCOME/OPENING PRAYER

Bridget welcomed everyone and Father Jack led the Board in prayer. Those in attendance:

2) SECRETARY'S REPORT

Attendance Sheet was passed around. The Minutes were approved.

 

3) TREASURER'S REPORT

Fran Vanarsdall reported few expenses except $50 sent to teachers for start-up money. Market Day money was distributed to some teachers that we missed last March. Advertisements last years were $150.00 for basketball, $50.00 for music program, $40 for Destination Imagination. Total was $240.00. Current savings account balance is $2833.55 and the checkbook is balanced

 

4) FATHER JACK

Fr. Jack informed the group that Wednesday night would be Mass for those who have loss loved ones in terrorism incident. The churches in town are working on race relations in the Amos project. Dave Lennert is spearheading. Dan and Theresa Besl are going to Harland County KY to work on community service projects. Fr. Jack reported that the Finance Commission is in the black. They do not recommend Linda Dodd 's Memorial Fund be used for a scholarship. The Dodd family is willing to have it used for other more urgent school needs.

 

5) PRINCIPAL

Mr. Cavanaugh reported that has hired a technology person. Classes to be held for kids in next few weeks. Contracted Full Service Network for hours of support at discounted rate. If we don't use all the hours we get reimbursed. Terrorism crisis handled well within church and school. Tremendous outpouring of support. Money to be totaled Friday for Red Cross. Tuesday September 25th is Open House. An external team of principles will be coming October 17th, 18th, and 19th to evaluate accreditation process. Mrs. Margello, Mrs. McManus, Ms. Liderbach are the three teachers really helping with this process. Mr. Cavanaugh has requested that parents continue to reinforce and stress good manners with kids at home.

Terrorism incident was shared with Junior High kids on the 11th. Parents please reinforce the support of how this was handled. Mr. Cavanaugh is currently putting together a crisis plan.

 

6) GENERAL BUSINESS

a) Innisbrook underway 9/24 is deadline

b) The PTA sponsored Christmas Ornament will be sold at $5.00

c) PTA needs to decide if there will be putt-putt or children's games at next years Parish Picnic

d) The Everybody Counts program will be the week of October 22nd.

e) The Write Stuff program reported that 4 or 5 orders were incorrect. There will be a small loss of funds ($25 or less). There is no profit on this program.

f) There was a discussion on the possibility of a school supply store with the 8th graders operating it. Mr. Cavanaugh will bring it up at the next staff meeting.

 

7) NEW BUSINESS

a) The School Phone Directory should be completed by the end of October.

b) PTA Help wanted forms had a good response.

c) So far we have had an 80% response for dues.

d) Pancake Breakfast will not be in December this year. It will probably be in the spring. Kathy Downey will discuss this event further with Fr. Jack.

e) New Fundraising Ideas -

Honeybaked Hams - It was mentioned that Roger Bacon does it at Christmas already. Bell Spiral hams are done through Market Day as well.

Tyson - will give $0.24 per A+ labels. Martha Siegel is looking into registering.

Kmart - will give 0.25% on purchases &endash; not worth it!

Martha Siegel - will take over Lands End Project Again

f.) Other New Fundraising ideas:

Looking into empty print cartridge programs to get $ back

Krismers' Plant Farm Gift Certificates

g.) Santa Shop - Teresa Eve had back surgery. Pray for her. She will still run the Santa Shop

h.) Other Business

At the Open House PTA will have a few tables set up to discuss programs for "New" St. Vivian parents to hook them up with Veteran Families and orient them with the school.

Past Minutes from PTA Meetings should be posted on the bulletin board inside the church in the future, include the list of all attendees.

Michelle Heyob discussed PTA purchasing balls or other equipment for the playground.

Kathy Downey will head a committee to see what is needed.

 

8) ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 8:35pm. Next Meeting is October 17th at 7 PM.
