Theresa McGoron reported a checking account balance of $35,953.70 and a savings account balance of $5,215.75. Members of the Board raised questions concerning the amount of money requested of the PTA that will go toward teacher's salaries. The amount was several thousand dollars more than in past years. It will be looked into.

4) FATHER JACK

Fr. Jack was not in attendance.

5) PRINCIPAL

(The Principal's report was read by Michelle Heyob on behalf of Mr. Vance.)

The school's Open House on September 28th was a great success with a better-than-expected attendance. The fourth graders and their "pigs" were featured on several newscasts last month. Congratulations to them on a job well done. Representatives from 5 Catholic high schools came to St. Vivian for an evening of answering questions for perspective students. The night was very beneficial for all those who attended.

6) GENERAL BUSINESS

a) Beth Hurd will be joining Fran Vanarsdall as Co- Leaders of the Market Day program. They will take over in December. Thank you to both of them for taking on this worthwhile program.

b) The Innisbrook gift wrap sale was a success, with proceeds slightly higher than last year's sale.

c) The Everybody Counts Program will begin next week.

d) The Campbell's Labels top three homerooms for the month of September were : 1st place - Miss Byrnes / 3rd grade, 2nd place - Miss Hendricks / 4th grade, 3rd place - Mrs. Margello / 1st grade.

e) The school directories are already in and look wonderful.

7) NEW BUSINESS

a) Pancake Breakfast - A Santa has been 'hired', although adding a second "Jolly Old Elf" is under consideraton due to the length of time they would need to be available. It is thought that having a second Santa will make for a more pleasant experience for both. Most of the volunteers have already been lined up for this event, though they are still waiting on some phone calls to be returned. Kathy Downey is working on finding donations for a possible raffle to take place at the Breakfast.

b) The PTA Christmas Tree - nothing new to report.

c) The Santa Shop will take place on November 29th and 30th in the backstage room. Everything is progressing on schedule.

d) St. Vivian Ornaments - There is not enough time to complete the design/approval/order process to have the ornaments available for sale this year. However, Suzanne CaJacob will continue with the process in order to have them available next year.

e) The Ice Cream Social will take place on April 25, 2001.

f) Fran Vanarsdall is in the process of contacting all of the new school families. The calls have been well received and much appreciated. The purpose of these calls is to welcome our new students and their families to the school community, to answer any questions they might have and to let them know the PTA is open to their participation.

g) The PTA will be holding a survey on behalf of P&G on November 9 from 1:30 - 5:30p.m. (During Parent/Teacher conferences.) The PTA will receive $5.00 for each participant in the survey. Should more than 68 people volunteer, a $25.00 bonus will be added.

8) OTHER BUSINESS

a) Mrs. Rimele's retirement celebration will take place on October 27, 2000. Discussion took place concerning how we could express our thanks to her for all she's done for the PTA and school community over the years. A decision was made and Theresa McGoron will pick up the gift.

b) The school community service plans being arranged by Joy Gunza are still in the planning stage. After speaking with Mrs. McManus concerning the homework tips she had provided her second graders, Joy Gunza was advised that a Homework Seminar would not be appropriate at this time. The topic requires a different approach for each age group of children, which would make the topic too vague or inappropriate for some of the age groups attending the event. However, the Internet Safety seminar is proceeding. Mrs. Gunza has been in contact with the detective who does the presentations, and was advised to contact the Sheriff's Dept. about scheduling the event. She will take care of that this week. Mrs. Gunza proposed making this event open to other schools. This would not only be a service to the other school communities, but would promote the community-mindedness of our school and allow for a larger audience for the detective who's taking the time to educate us on this very important topic. This idea was well received. Mrs. Gunza also proposed asking Ms. Siciliano if the PTA could co-sponsor the Parenting event she has planned for next month. It will be looked into.

9) ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M.

NEXT MEETING - November 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Ursuline Room. ( The old convent.)

Respectfully submitted,

Amy Zust
