5) PRINCIPAL

Mr. Vance was not in attendance. His report was read by Mary Kent:

Thanks to all the PTA chairpersons for their support and leadership this year. St.Vivian students are very lucky to have such a committed group of individuals as yourselves. Grade 7 enjoyed a day long leadership and drug resistance experience at Camp Campbell Gard on Monday, May 14th. Students were provided experiences in which they were to work and problem solve as a team. Hats off to the group planning the graduation reception! **The actual graduation mass will begin at 8:00 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. as previously published. This will allow us to turn on the air conditioning during the service.** Author Louise Borden will visit St.Vivian on May 23 and make a presentation to grades K-4 of her new book dedicated to Mrs.Dodd. The memorial to Mrs.Dodd will have 2 components in it: One will be a permanent memorial - a prayer/reading garden outside the library. The other will be an ongoing memorial of supporting writing and reading activities in the school. The activities will be supported through a grant that teachers can apply for each year. More info to follow.

6) GENERAL BUSINESS

a) The Ice Cream Social on 4/25 was a success.Mary Allgeier suggested getting a bit more ice cream for next year's event. She also suggested changing the entertainment for next year. Though the magic act was enjoyable, we've had the same act 2 years in a row.

b) The walk-a-thon went well last month, already bringing in $8,882.17 (before expenses) compared to last year's total of $8232.30. Laura Kalas reported that the lower grades were very enthusiastic about participating, but that the junior high students were more apathetic about the event. She suggested a change in the way the older grades participate might raise their level of enthusiasm for this fundraiser.

7) NEW BUSINESS

a) A reminder: The Faculty/Staff Appreciation Dinner is on Wednesday, May 16th at The Grove.

b) The total # of labels collected this year for the Campbell's Labels for Education Program was 22,041. The top 3 homerooms for the 2000-01 school year are:

1st Place: Mrs.Deller (2nd grade) 1700 labels

2nd Place: Mrs. Liderbach (4th grade) 1470 labels

3rd Place: Mrs. Hendricks (4th grade) 1398 labels

c) Track-n-field day is proceeding on schedule. Mary Ellen Gant will be the person in charge on site that day.

d) Plans for the graduation reception are on track.

e) A sign up sheet was sent around for those willing to volunteer to work the dunking booth at the festival this year.

8) OTHER BUSINESS

a) A new coordinator is needed to continue the school supply program previously run by Shirley Brunsman.

b) The sign up sheet for volunteers to work the puttputt game at the Parish Picnic will be available at the August Board Meeting.

c) The job list for the 2001-02 Board will be sent with the August agenda and jobs will be decided at the August meeting. All board members are required to sign up for at least one job, with returning members getting first choice.

d) Mary Hanson needs volunteers to help in the library on June 4th getting the books ready for the AR program.

e) Sue CaJacob is working on the ornaments that the PTA plans to sell. The first possible design was revealed and met with enthusiasm. She is still working on getting the temporary tatoos.

9) ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m.

** This was the last Board meeting of the 2000-01 school year. **

Respectfully submitted,

Amy Zust
