St. Vivian PTA Meeting Minutes
January 18, 2006
7:00 p.m. Faculty Lounge
Members in attendance:
Shelley Hoesl, Mike Ward, Amy Hagedorn, Kim Hafele, Hope Maier, Amy Miller, Debbie Ruter, Judy Rolfert, Maria Henn, Jean Margello.
Opening Prayer:
Shelley Hoesl opened the meeting with a reading from Scripture and reflection on the reading.
President’s Report:
Shelley announced the resignation of Heather Batdorf as PTA First Vice-President and PTA board member as of December 8, 2005. The office of First Vice-President will remain open until next school year. Heather will continue to volunteer as a parent.
Treasurer’s Report:
Mike Ward presented a treasurer’s report that was caught up and completely reprinted in total from August 2005 to the present. The current balance is $14,637.84.
Principal’s Report:
Jean Margello reported that Our Lady of the Rosary School and St. Clare Schools were closing at the end of this year and forming a new entity with St. Bartholomew Consolidated School. St. Margaret Mary School is also closing after this school year. A report on Catholic Schools week was given. Joe Deters will be honored at the All School Mass as a Distinguished St. Vivian School Graduate. Mrs. Margello presented the COSI science presentation brochures and asked for permission to schedule a day in the 2006/2007 school year at a cost of $895. The motion was approved by the board.
Old Business:
1. Sally Foster: Janine Winters and Amy Grider were not present to give a report. Mike Ward estimated profits to be approximately $8,100. There was discussion regarding prizes that had not yet been distributed and some orders had not yet been received. Jean Margello will follow up with Janine and the Sally Foster rep if needed. Members will explore other fund raising opportunities and report back next month.
2. Jingle Bell Shop: Julie Bergmann was not in attendance, but reported to the board that the sale went very well. New items and handcrafted items were very well received. Left over items are stored for next year’s use.
3. Breakfast with Santa: Mike Ward reported that a nice crowd attended. There was a photographer present who gave St. Vivian 10% of his profits. The total Breakfast with Santa profit was $150.
4. Catholic Schools Week: Appreciation gift - Amy Hagedorn has ordered red St. Vivian Sabres bracelets for all of the students. Faculty Appreciation lunch - Julie Bergmann, Maria Henn, and Emily Hutzel will organize and host the lunch. Grandparents’ activity - Amy Miller is arranging for students to make prayer cards. PTA was asked to cover the cost of refreshments. Motion was put forward and accepted by the board. PTA will provide $200 toward the cost of refreshments.
5. General Meeting - Debbie Gardner will present her Survival Seminar on February 22 at 6:30 P.M. in the Activity Center. Shelley Hoesl will send out flier on January 26th to begin collecting reservations The cost of the evening is $1,000. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children grades 5 and up.
6. Lowe’s Grant: Debbie Ruter, Judy Rolfert, and Jean Margello will look over the information for possibilities for our school.
7. PTA Budget: Shelley Hoesl and Mike Ward will try to update for the February meeting.
New Business:
1. Walkathon: Debbie Ruter will be sending out letters soliciting donations. Amy Hagedorn asked about buying t-shirts again for the students. Motion was put forth and approved by t he board to purchase shirts for each student.
2. Ice Cream Social - no report
3. Faculty Appreciation Dinner: It was suggested by those present to reserve the White House Inn for May 9, 2006. A motion was put forth and approved by the board
4. Track and Field Day: no report
5. Nominating Committee for board members: All members are asked to bring 2 names of potential board members to the February meeting. Amy Hagedorn and Amy Miller expressed interest in serving for another term.
6. PTA Officers for next year: Vote will be in March
7. Graduation: no report
8. School kits: no report
9. Moeller Greenhouse fundraiser: Shelley H. will call and get a date for the sale weekend. A motion was put forth and approved by the board.
Other Business:
Mike Ward reported that new tables are needed for the cafeteria for events where the lunchroom picnic tables are not appropriate. The parish is looking to buy plastic banquet tables. Groups including the Festival Committee and Boosters, in addition to PTA, have been asked to contribute. After discussion, it was decided that PTA will consider donating toward the cost in the future after the budget is set. PTA does not anticipate paying one third of the cost as they only use tables once a year at the general meeting.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be the general meeting on February 22, at 6:30 p.m, in the activity center.
