The cost of the organ is $60,000. They have received approximately half the money in donations. Tom Bove will speak at all of the masses in regards to additional donations. The balance of money needed would be borrowed from the Archdiocese with fifteen years to pay off.
The annual St. Patrick's Day Party will be held on March 18th. Stan Riley will set up. Randy Kent helped with creating extra space in the storage room to the left of the stage in the Activity Center. He installed an extra floor between floor and ceiling to help store props (above) and sports equipment (below).
5) PRINCIPAL
Mr. Vance would like to thank all the parents for their patience during the Christmas programs. All three performances had excellent attendance. On our day off for Martin Luther King Day, fourteen people from Great American Financial Corp. donated their time and supplies to paint some of the lockers in the classrooms.
St. Vivian's has at least four new families who have enrolled their children in our school. Sally Merkle will send them a letter from the PTA.
Dale and Mary Hanson have been working on a new look for our school logo and PR material. Mr. Vance set out some examples of the possible logos and would like feedback this evening.
Over the past weekend, many of our eighth graders received notification regarding high school placement.
Their were scholarships awarded anywhere from $350.00 to $9000.00. Approximately three students from St. Vivians scored the highest score on the placement tests that were given to all students applying to those schools.
Everyone was given a copy of the outline for Catholic Schools Week. The Open House for new students in Kindergarten and First grade was moved to Thursday, February 3rd. Since registration is coming soon, he is trying to target enrollment for the pre-school, kindergarten and first grades.
To celebrate the millennium: he would like to have each child in the school give at least six names of people they can send prayers to and hope to get a response from. The goal would be 2000 prayers and they would celebrate by planting a tree.
Mr. Vance has been getting quite a few calls from people at other parishes who may be interested in changing schools. We need to increase enrollment, but would like to stay with a maximum of 24 students per classroom.
Sally Merkle brought up questions regarding Voucher Program (Grants), Mr. Vance told the PTA that the program is for inner city children who have a desire to attend private school and cannot afford the full tuition. It requires that the family pay a certain percentage of the tuition and follow certain attendance and grade criteria.
Possible "Lock Down" that was discussed at last meeting - no additional information at this time.
