Board Meeting Minutes
August 15, 2001
1) WELCOME/OPENING PRAYER
Bridgett Raffenberg introduced herself and Father Jack opened the meeting in prayer. The Board members introduced themselves and told a little about themselves.Mr. Bill Cavanaugh was introduced to us as our new principal.
The previous minutes were reviewed and accepted for the record.
2) TREASURER'S REPORT
Fran Vanarsdall indicated that the Previous Balance was $11,587.95. Deposits were made in the amount or $7,628.47. Expenses were $16,139.85. The New Balance is $3,076.57 plus the monies in the savings account $2,833.55 for a total of $5,910.12.Fran asked that if you work on an activity and need to be reimbursed for funds spent, please clip the receipt to a form which is available from Fran and return to Fran for reimbursement. These can be sent to school through Mrs. Ortman.
4) PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Mr. Bill Cavanaugh told the PTA that he is happy to join us. He went to Elder High School, then to Mt. St. Joseph for college and U. C. for his Master's Degree. For the last two years he has worked as principal in Dayton at Precious Blood (and will not miss the drive) He hopes to build up a technical crew of people to develop the computer lab. If you know anyone who is interested in a 3 day a week job and has software and programming experience, let him know. Mr. Cavanaugh is considering adult computer classes in the evenings. He is also looking for someone to help with grant writing.There are 6 new computers ordered for the library and a projector screen.
5) FATHER JACK'S REPORT
Chris Siciliano , Director of Religious Education left to take a teaching position.Jerry Coomes is retiring in September.
The Church Festival went well with $70,000 profit made.
New doors were bought for the breezeway.
6) GENERAL BUSINESS
Sue Cajacob has organized cafeteria duty. The schedule will be printed on the back of the menus. All the positions and subs have been filled. Three parents will work each lunch for two hours and get their lunch free.Sue Cajacob presented a Christmas Ornament that we will sell as a fund raiser. It costs us $2.50 each. She has asked us to make a suggestion as to the selling price. That will be discussed at the next meeting.
Fran Vanarsdall discussed MARKET DAY . This year the order forms will go home in the school mail but not in the church bulletins due to a cut back (from Market Day) in the number of forms supplied to us. The profit each month is approximately $591.00. Fran has asked for help in the spring with Market Day due to commitments she will have with the church festival. The FANS ORGANIZATION has asked about selling fresh produce on Market Day. The PTA feels that it may be a better idea to alternate selling days with them.
Bridgett Raffenberg filled in the new members of the board concerning the discussions that went on last year about PTA decreasing the monies to the general school budget.
INNSBROOK - Mary Beth McGraw discussed the $13,000 profit that is made.
She and Elaine have organized this each year since l994. We make 50% profit and this year internet sales will begin. There will be prizes for the top family sales such as passes to King Island. Dates September 10 - September 24. We also discussed the possibility of changing to a different supplier. MariBeth really likes Innisbrook and highly recommends remaining with them.
WRITE STUFF - Joy Gunza needs help with supply distribution in August.
PARISH PICNIC - August 26. PTA will do Putt - Putt. Need help.
CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS - Amy Zust won 250,000 labels which were used to buy preschool equipment. Some left over?
GRADUATION 2001 - Went well. Sandy Frank was ill but Connie Allen was able to take over. We need a date for next year. Reception and Dance for 8th graders.
PTA AGENDA - It was decided that we would let parents know the agenda of the meeting in case they would like to come. We discussed having three PTA general meeting throughout the year: one at Open House, one after Christmas and the Ice Cream Social. It was discussed that in order to encourage attendance at the open meetings, perhaps we should have a drawing of the parents who are there and award a prize. Any prize money awarded would be taken off of their tuition bill. Further discussion included whether all our meetings should be open or only some.
LANDS END MONEY - We will look into?
PROGRAMS FOR PARENTS - We will look into having another meeting on internet safety for parents and possibly homework help.
SECRET PAL - discussed and it was decided to continue giving teachers presents for their birthdays.
PILES OF PENNIES - To be dropped
OTHER FUNDRAISERS - discussed including Moeller Greenhouse Certificates, selling Honeybaked Hams and pies. More will discussed at later meetings
ADVERTISEMENTS - Presently we pay for two ads in the sports tournament brochures and a small one for the music program. It is not clear which programs we should continue to support with ads. We decided to place a monetary limit on funds that will be spent per year on advertisements. This limit will be discussed at the next meeting.
CONSTITUTIONAL BYLAWS - distributed . Also Job list was sent around and everyone was asked to sign up for one or more activity.
MRS. DODD - The Memorial Committee has requested the help of the PTA. We have agreed to organize the sale of engraved bricks for the memorial garden. Other ideas mentioned by the Memorial Committee were a U-shaped deck and a scholarship fund. Barb Ballinger has agreed to head this up.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST - Will be moved to spring due to conflicts and time restraints in December.
SCHOOL DIRECTORY - Next year the directory will be free with PTA dues or $5.00 each. We also decided to increase the cost of a second directory to $1.00.
DONUT SUNDAY - Organization of the donut volunteers has changed and PTA has not been asked to serve at this time.
The Meeting was adjorned at 9:20. Next meeting will be September 19 at 7:00.
