The funeral plans for Mrs. Dodd were discussed and a reminder was given for those interested in attending the informational meeting being held for parents in church on August 16. Jodie Bender is still recovering from an operation. She is supposed to limit her activity until at least Labor Day. Scot Buzza is considering starting a music program for the kids. One idea being considered is a children's Sunday choir. More information on this will be forthcoming. The parent volunteers did a wonderful job of cleaning and fixing up the school. Their time and effort is greatly appreciated. Fr. Jack expressed his gratitude to the PTA members for all of the time and effort they give in service to the school.
5) PRINCIPAL
Mr. Vance was not in attendance.( Mary Kent relayed information on behalf of Mr. Vance.)
Members were asked to volunteer for the packet pick-up after each mass the weekend of August 19 - 20. A sign-up sheet was passed around and volunteers were found for each mass. The computer lab is in the final stages of preparation. Joy Gunza will contact Mr. Vance about getting the computers hooked up and networked. The theme for this school year will be "IMAGINE A BETTER WORLD". All are welcome to attend the school's opening liturgy taking place at 8:15 a.m. August 29, 2000. Everyone was asked to keep Mrs. Dodd and her family in their prayers.
6) GENERAL BUSINESS
Mr. Vance's "Wish List" was presented: 1 field trip/class - $4750.00, seed money for each teacher - ($50.00 X 24 teachers) totalling $1250, Library and Art supplies - $500 each. A request has also been made for $6500.00 to purchase the four extra computers needed for the new Computer Lab. It was agreed that the four computers are a necessity, but before making a committment to pay for them, a cost breakdown is needed so we know exactly what we're paying for.a) Market Day - Ann McMackin and Joanne Fiorini are looking for volunteers to take over the Market Day Program. Both have many other committments and feel it's time to move on. They will continue to head the program for the next three months, but are hoping to use this time to train the new volunteers. They will continue to be available after the three months to support the new volunteers.
b) Innisbrook Wrap Sale - The kick-off assembly will take place on September 11 and the sale will continue until the 25th. Maribeth McGraw will be in charge of the sale again this year.
c) Piles of Pennies - Mary Kent will talk to Mrs. Heyob to see if the teachers wish to continue this program.
d) Everybody Counts - Jean Merz is leading this program once again. It is scheduled for October 16 - 20. Maria Meyer gave a brief description of the program for new members who may not be familiar with it.
e) School Supply List - It isn't known at this time when the supplies will be in. Theresa McGoron said that Shirley Brunsman was hoping to have them available at Packet Pick-Up this weekend. It wasn't known how the supplies will be distributed if they aren't available by then.
f) St. Vivian Parish Picnic - Putt-Putt - Volunteers are needed to run the Putt-Putt game at the Parish Picnic on Sunday, August 27. A sign-up sheet was passed around.
g) Secret Pal - will continue.
h) Campbell's Labels - Amy Zust reported that the program went well last year, despite falling short of our goal. A CD player was ordered that will be available for the teachers to use in their classrooms. Campbell's has confirmed the order and delivery is expected sometime in September.
i) Graduation - went well. However, a change in menu for the future was suggested. The fruit bowls, which have been traditional fare, were hardly touched and deemed a waste. This will be considered when planning the next celebration.
j) Lands End - Under $100.00 was earned. The exact amount was unavailable. Other fundraising programs were mentioned and will be looked into for possible participation in the future.
7) NEW BUSINESS
a) Mary Kent welcomed everyone again and introductions were made.b) Everyone was asked to familiarize themselves with the PTA Constitution/By Laws.
c) No conflicts were reported concerning the PTA calender.
d) The job distribution list was passed around and each member was asked to sign up for at least one job. Some new members asked questions concerning some of the positions and brief descriptions were given. There are still some positions that need to be filled.
e) No decisions were made concerning the Pancake Breakfast.
f) Questions were raised concerning the price of extra directories. There had been discussion last school year of raising the price. Amy Zust reported having already received the forms from the pre- school and the price had not changed. It remains $.50 per extra copy.
g) The decorating of the PTA Christmas Tree will once again be coordinated with the 3rd grade teachers.
h) Mary Kent reported that the PTA "Help Wanted" letters and dues envelopes are in the packets of forms being picked up by parents this weekend.
8) OTHER BUSINESS
Questions were raised about why the PTA meetings were not open to everyone. A suggestion was made to have a couple of general meetings where everyone would be welcome to come and hear what the PTA is involved in and voice their ideas and opinions. This suggestion will be taken under consideration.
9) ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
NEXT MEETING - September 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the FACULTY LOUNGE.
Respectfully submitted,
