What is the Prayer Journal?

The U.S. Conference of Bishops defines a Christian steward as one who:

Receives God's gifts gratefully

Cultivates those gifts responsibly

Shares those gifts in justice and love, and

Returns those gifts to the Lord with increase

This week you will receive a Prayer Journal to help you think about the concept of stewardship. The Prayer Journal gives daily reflections, meditations, and prayers on the four concepts contained in the Bishops' Pastoral Letter. In many ways, this Prayer Journal is very similar to the white & black books which are a part of the Advent and Lenten seasons. Included with the Prayer Journal are several inventories that will help you discover how you practice stewardship in your own life.

The Prayer Journal is a wonderful opportunity to expand your thinking about stewardship and to consider ways in which you may grow as a Christian steward. It is a document which can be used individually or shared with the whole family so that each family member can have their own unique experience with this style of prayer.

Read the Prayer Journal. Set aside time to use it daily and take full advantage of this faith enrichment tool. Share it with family members. Meditate on the meaning of stewardship. And finally, pray: Lord, what do You want to do through me to accomplish Your will for my parish? And then, Listen closely for His answer.
