F. Reports from Sport Commissioners:

1. Girls Basketball & Tournament – Dan Valerio and Brian Hoffman:

CYO games have started.

Steve Glassmeyer is taking over from Rozell the 5th grade team (see Other Items later in this e-mail)

New uniforms arrived and distributed -- cost was $2210. Need to order additional smaller sizes for an extra $200. Total cost will not exceed the $2500 pre-approved by the Board last Spring.

Ordered 7 coaches shirts, will cost $19 each.

Everyone paid, but one check was returned. Member said there was a bank error and they would take care of it. No problems expected.

Besides St. Vivian Activity Center, the teams will only using Whitaker gym on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Only 7 Girl teams and several coaches are able to practice in the afternoon and early evening when St. Vivian gym is often underutilized. G. Reports on Unfinished Business

1.        Confirm Commissioners for the 2006/2007 school year.

a.        Andrew Burton will co-commission Girls Volleyball with Jenny Hoeh

b.       Brian Hoffman will handle Girls Softball signups. Odds are based on last year there may only be a 4th grade team which he would coach

c.        Track is still vacant. May combine with Assumption again.

2.        Identify Commissioners for 2007/2008 school year:

a.        Fall 2006 is last year Tom Kraemer will handle Boys Basketball Tournament

b.       Spring 2007 is last year Matt Hagen will handle Boys Baseball

c.        The following suggestions were discussed as possible recruitment efforts for vacant Board and Commissioner positions:  1. Go through the school directory and identify potential candidates and send a letter asking them to volunteer  2. Send out a recruitment letter to parents whose children sign up for fall sports.  It was suggested to the Fall Sports Commissioners (Andrew and Jim Haverland) to obtain an e:mail address during sign-ups so we can send out the letter via e:mail.  Mark Ballinger will follow-up with Jim Haverland.

3.        Draft policy on how to recognize 8th graders for their last home game in their respected sports, carryover from last year (Rob).  Rob drafted a proposal and will forward to all board members for review.

H. New Business:

  1. Replacement Board Member for Rozell

                                                               i.      Bob Veatch is available if needed, but he’d prefer to remain “retired” if current Board knows of other interested people.

  1. Any special projects for the Board to take on in 2006/2007? Need Owners for any ideas.

Gym floor upgrade is placed on hold per Fr. Paul.  Mark Ballinger and Brian Frey will keep this topic in front of Fr.      Paul and the Finance team through the different committees they sit on.

  1. Sponsorship of HS sports previously sponsored by Youth Group (Dan).

                                                               i.      Dan asked Jeanne Schaefer, new Youth Group Minister, to identify participating parents who would agree to be commissioners and coaches.

Additional Notes: Submitted by Dan Valerio

  • Note Andrew Burton will be commissioner of Girls Volleyball along with Jenny Hoeh. Will need to coordinate signups with Boys Baketball (Jim Haverland)
  • We need a Board replacement for Rozell. Rozell and his family moved to Wyoming and enrolled their girls at Wyoming schools. They are not parishioners. Since they are neither parishioners nor students in the school, the girls are not eligible for CYO participation. Rozell has passed coaching duties to Steve Glassmeyer. Brian Eve will assist Steve. Rozell no longer has any children involved with Boosters and his Board position is available. Bob Ve! atch, long time Board member is available to "unretire" but suggests some Board members with younger children may know of other candidates. Bob would prefer to remain retired.
  • As discussed at a previous meeting, Jodie Bender will only be DRE and not Youth Minister. Fr. Paul requested that Boosters take over the High School sports that Jodie was coordinating. We agreed this was possible as long as the parents of participating students agreed to be Commissioners/Coaches. I relayed this request to Jeanne Schaefer who is the new Youth Minister.
  • We previously had two small tables in the gym -- one was the scorer's table and the other was the Gate table. One table disappeared a year ago and gate workers have wrestled with full sized ! tables every week during home games. I propose we buy another small table. The full sized tables are heavy for gate workers to set up.
